    Source Material

    in Historical Debate

    Hi Tom,

I am wondering what different source material you used when developing the game. You are clearly an enthusiast. How accurate did you try to be when creating the scenarios?

Thanks for your reply Tom. I've had a look some of your source lists and made notes on books I now need to pick up. The Crucible of War series by Barrie Pitt has been my main source of knowledge, so your lists will help me broaden my understanding.

Hi sirvainglory! You can find the list for the source material used at the bottom of each historical article/map in the News section: https://www.attackatdawn.com/news/categories/blog

Those were my main sources for scenario making, although my entire reading list is much bigger. I tried to be as accurate as possible, while maintaining the fun in playing the game. Basically I stuck to the historical orders of battle and dispositions, and tried to mimic the actual combat values of the troops. The factors I tweaked were usually morale and effectiveness of troops, but those I adjusted only within certain limits, not to break the historical validity of the scenarios.

That's why some scenarios will be very hard for certain sides, as they historically were. You will not have a balanced scenario, if it wasn't the case historically.
